Do you buy "regular" or organic strawberries? I ask this because although I am well aware of the many advantages of choosing organic and supporting organic farmers as much as possible, organic produce is just not always available (or affordable) where I live.

But I have read repeatedly that strawberries and peanuts are two of the most heavily sprayed crops and for this reason I do only buy organic strawberries. Which definitely limits my family's strawberry consumption - but I just cannot bring myself to buy non-organic strawberries.

Wondering what your thoughts are on this?

Thank you!

@Lynn: I'm also in the organic camp when it comes to strawberries. You might already know about EWG's List of Dirty Dozen for 2017 but here it is for those who may be interested: https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/dirty_dozen_list.php. I put a copy on my fridge as a constant reminder. Without access to fresh organic I resort to frozen fruits and vegetables. Organic can be so expensive but I justify it by believing it to be an important trade-off to a healthier future. I recently asked my 37yo daughter if she thought I was being paranoid in my old age, about the food we eat, always checking the source, the latest research, etc. She said, ''well I'd rather be safe, if i'm going to die prematurely I'd prefer it be from something I had no control

over''. That made me feel good. Even if we only lessen our ingestion of pesticides I think it helps our health in the long run.

@Lynn - I have written about this a lot and my conclusion is that the health benefits of eating strawberries far out weigh any risk of harmful pesticide exposure. See https://snack-girl.com/snack/price-organic/

The cake is made from ripe strawberries look delicious and attractive.
