Make Your Own Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

August 11, 2014   14 Comments

I am SO proud of myself. I made this beautiful bowl of strawberry frozen yogurt (and then I ate it).

DIY Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

In my cute little town, we have not one, not two, but THREE places to buy frozen yogurt. Crazy. My children love these places because they allow you to serve yourself and you can put fun things like gummy bears on the yogurt. My daughter managed to ring up a $7 frozen yogurt when I wasn’t paying attention.

Now, I always pay attention.

But, who needs these pricey venues when you can make your own? I made this lovely frozen strawberry frozen yogurt with my food processor and it took me about 5 minutes.

I started with frozen strawberries, which is important for the “frozen” part of frozen yogurt. Then, I added yogurt and sugar. The sugar is optional. I tasted this and decided it needed a little bump to be truly a dessert.

Feel free to substitute agave nectar, honey, or maple syrup for sugar here. You can use regular plain yogurt or greek yogurt. Whatever you have will work.

Once you realize how easy this is, you will never buy frozen yogurt again. This is less expensive AND tastes so fresh!

Have you ever made frozen yogurt?

I often buy a large tub of vanilla flavored yogurt. If you substituted vanilla flavored yogurt would you omit the sugar?

Made this a couple of weeks ago with fresh nectarines that I had frozen. Fantastic! Used vanilla greek yogurt and didn't need to add additional sweetener. Need to add sweetener would depend, though, on ripeness of fruit and personal taste.

@Terry - this would work with vanilla flavored yogurt and I would omit the sugar and see how it tastes. Thanks for the question!

I make this nearly everyday but I add vitamin supplements and use frozen blueberries. If you want to use a straw and drink this, just add water and you have a smoothie. This is great for summer!

Vanilla yogurt is usually already sweetened; therefore would most likely not need additional sweetener. I would use plain yogurt, add vanilla, and I would try to gradually reduce the added sugar each time I made this.

This is a great recipe made just like the recipe is, but I like it better with Truvia or a very ripe banana substituted for the sugar. I have also put fresh or frozen spinach in it to get more vegetables for me and my daughter. You can't even taste it. I promise. My very picky daughter loves it. I just add a little water to make it a smoothie.

This is outrageously good - I used local, freshly picked strawberries and Trader Joe's plain yoghurt - the dish exploded with flavor.

..a little of balsamic vinegar will sweeten strawberries..

If using fresh strawberries, can you just pop them in the freezer, then proceed?

Can you use a blender I don't have a processor

I made this with non-fat Greek yogurt and since I'm trying to eliminate processed sugar from my diet sweetened it with 2-3 tablespoons of agave syrup. It was perfect!

Sue Barry, the recipe makes six servings that are 4oz each. I love this recipe because it is easy to make, healthy and can be made with any fruit you like.
