Greatist Collaboration: Spicy Roasted Chickpeas

June 1, 2012   11 Comments

Have you ever tried to roast chickpeas AKA garbanzo beans? It is pretty simple and turns out a crunchy snack that will remind you of nuts.

Greatist Chickpeas

Except, these aren't nuts - they are beans! They are very filling and cheap. Just like roasting vegetables you just add some olive oil, flavors, and cook at a high temperature.

Today, I am sharing this post with Greatist because they are super cool. They named me #44 on a list of 100 Most Influential People in Health and Fitness 2011 and I am hoping to get to #40 this year :)

Head on over to Greatist to check out the recipe!

Here are some other wonderful, easy, and healthy foods to roast:

Here's one though! Let me know what you think about the different combos!

Do yours pop all over the oven when roast them,?

No popping for me... Sometimes a few escape when I shake the pan halfway through though. :)

Any Points info? Please, these sound good but I know chickpeas are cards so... Thanks.

@Sue - I will take a look at it. My recipe analyzer hates beans so I am having trouble getting a correct nutrition evaluation.

I am gonna heave my decrepit body into an upright position and waddle over to the kitchen and make myself a batch of those yummy-sounding garbanzos and settle back down into a prone position and do what I do best; eat.

I just tried to do the point calculations. I'm figuring between 3 & 4 points for a 1/2 cup serving. I used my points calculator for the chickpeas and a tbs of olive oil is 4 points (so divided figure that's a point per serving). I'd assume a slightly higher value if doing the sweet version. Very excited to try these out!

Thought you might want to know that you have incorrectly spelled "greatest". And since it's your heading, you might want to correct it.

To the person who corrected her spelling of "greatist" - it's a title of another website, Greatist, not the word "greatest". Question! How do you store them for later? Do they need to be refridgerated?

I was thinking Old Bay to season the roasted chickpeas with.

I am so glad I found this recipe. My Mom used to make these and we could also buy them when we visited the Italian area in RI. Have to run to the store so I can make them.,
