Low Carb Snacks

Processed grains such as pasta, rice, and white bread missing the whole grain component are hard to give up. They are light, fluffy, and sweet. If you are like me, you just LOVE them.

Foods that contain simple carbohydrates raise blood glucose levels. Diabetics need to count how many carbohydrates they eat to keep their blood sugar level low.

People trying to lose weight know that processed carbs pack a calorie punch without much fiber or nutritional upside.

While I am not an advocate of a HIGH protein diet, I am an advocate for eating less junk food. Most of the snacks in the list below feature a protein and a vegetable. Hey, you want some nutrients in your low carb snack, right?

Definitely want to find out how to make a chicken breast not like a hockey puck!

Celery and salsa. Apples with caramel stevia and cinnamon on them. These new Nature Valley PB & Dark Chocolate protein bars are pretty good, too, but do have 14 g of carbs along with their 10g of protein. I'm a fan of beef jerky and dried apples, too. They require no refrigeration and i try to keep them in my car so i have them in emergencies when i'm starved and want to avoid the drive-thru. I can always drive thru McDs or Sonic and get a big glass ofunsweet tea and a bag of fresh cut apples and McDs has those great little yogurt parfaits that are yum-o, too. I also love trying out different protein bars, and am always on the lookout for the best ratio of calories vs. protein count (If you can do 10 calories or less per gram of protein you're doing great!). I'd love to make some on my own but haven't had much luck on recipes for them that are lower in calories than the ones you can buy (which pretty much means it needs to be WITHOUT a nut butter involved.) Anyone have one they'd like to share?

I realize soft boiled eggs weren't on your list, but I managed to get there after clicking on the tomato poached egg. I haven't had a soft boiled egg since I was a kid, and the one I just finished was even better than I remembered, thanks!!

You ought to try/review Tanka Bars, they are amazing! Made of buffalo and cranberry, and they also have meat sticks, bites and other products.

They are gluten-free, nitrates-free, MSG-free, and hormone-free and really really good.

Got to watch any fruit - especially dried - very high PLUS stay away from most bars - 14 g of carbs is 1/2 of what most people should have in a day. Try to get most of your carbs from green veg. STAY AWAY from ANY processed food - sure way to eliminate sugar. String cheese, 20-24 almonds, hard boiled eggs, baked pepperoni "crisps", baked cheese (till crunchy)most raw veg (avoid carrots, any peas including snow) like broccoli, cauli, celery, radish, greens, kale very good eats/snacks! Good luck you will be satiated & full when you get over sugar craving.

Thank you so much for this article! I am a diabetic and on Weight Watchers. I have successfully lost 25 pounds (much to the delight of my diabetes team) and am always looking for lower carb snacks. This article is incredibly helpful!

Thanks for all of these great ideas. I'm not over weight at all, but still struggle with sugar. Appreciate all of these great ideas!

I always struggled with my weight. Lost 30 lbs then gained 18 of it back due to medication. I am always hungry. I gave up soda, each brown rice crispies, a banana and fat free milk for breakfast. My doctor suggested for me to give up sugar again and when I get hungry between meals to drink club soda and I added a little lemon to it and it really is tolerable and no calories and the gas from the club soda fills you up and he said also try eating some broccoli or a small apple. Cutting down on my portions and exercising, so hopefully I'll have success and lose the weight.

Awe great post! I'm a lover of kale chips too! Thanks for sharing this info! I wanted to share my top 13 low carb snacks: http://www.drsarasolomon.com/13-best-low-carb-portable-snac…
