What Is Your Favorite Salsa?

March 25, 2011   137 Comments

Salsa is one of those rare food that gives you LOTS of flavor for very few calories. (Why, dear butter, haven't you learned from salsa?)

Mrs Renfro's Salsa

AND, you get to add a serving of vegetables to your dish. How can you go wrong?

Snack Girl hadn't actually met great salsa until she visited the great state of Texas in 1991. There she tasted a combination of salsa and eggs for breakfast and realized she was missing out!

Tomatoes, onions, cilantro, chiles, and eggs for breakfast? That was a true awakening. This meal went well with my favorite breakfast drink, coffee.

So, when Mrs. Renfro's of Fort Worth, Texas asked to send me salsa - I was psyched! Of course, I prefer fresh salsa, but it isn't tomato season so I'm not making my own right now.

Mrs. Renfro's makes a bunch of different flavors and I had actually already bought their "Green Salsa" from my local Stop & Shop.

Two tablespoons include 10 calories and this is the ingredient list:

jalapeno peppers, water, onions, distilled vinegar, corn starch, salt, spices, garlic

It was really good. My favorite is the Chipotle Corn Salsa which lasted in my fridge for about 30 seconds. The Mrs. Renfro's website suggests pouring it over pasta with some grilled chicken. I think this meal would be divine.

For those of you who like danger, give the Ghost Pepper Salsa a try - "The ghost pepper takes on many forms - pepper spray, hand grenades, smoke bombs… and now salsa!" - I tried it and now I use it in VERY limited quantities to add some spice.

Mrs. Renfro's is giving away four jars of salsa to a lucky Snack Girl reader.

The peach salsa sounds delicious!!

I've been obsessed with Mrs. Renfro's Habanero Salsa for YEARS. I buy at least five jars at a time to stock up! :)

The peach salsa sounds tasty (plus, it is mild, which is about all the heat I can handle!) :)

They all sound amazing, but I would love to get my hands on some of the garlic salsa!

Black Bean salsa sounds fantastic!!

Honestly I'd like to try them all! I love salsa. If I had to choose, I'd say the Black Bean Salsa or the Chipolte Corn Salsa. Yummy!!! I'll have to check these out at my local store.

I would love to try the Habanero Salsa - but I also think I could handle the Ghost Pepper Salsa!

They all sound good! And the Mrs Renfrow's I've tried have all been really good, too.

One of our favorite easy dinners is to pour a jar of salsa and a half jar of water in to a crock pot. I add a cup of uncooked brown rice. Then dump in some chopped up boneless raw chicken, a couple cut up Applegate andoulle sausage (or their turkey hot dogs depending on how "hot" the diners like their food - the andoulle is very spicy and only loses a little to the dish while the hot dogs pick up a bit of whatever bite the salsa offers) (and some raw shrimp if I can afford it.) Cook on low for at least 4 hours and you have a very easy, very yummy "gumbo".

Good salsas are an amazing way to add flavor to many dishes (and so easy) ... chicken, fish, brown rice, quinoa, and more. So, buy them, buy them, buy them ... and then test them out with many of your dishes.

My family calls me the Salsa King because I use them on so many dishes.

I love the peach salsa and the medium!

anything really spicy!

I love the Chipotle Corn Salsa too!

I think that the green salsa looks amazing, I'd love to try that out! Salsa is one of my favorite foods, and you're right, lots of flavor with little calories and a short ingredients to boot.

Yum they all sound delicious but I am intrigued by the black bean in particular!

I love the peach salsa

peach salsa sounds really good!

Being Texan, I'm shocked I haven't tried this yet. I've tried most jar salsas because few live up to the amazing fresh salsas that are in abundance here. I'm dying to try the Chipolte Corn Salsa. That would be heavenly on a salad.

PEACH!! :P

Oh man, Garlic Salsa! We are obsessed with garlic in my house! I'm making it my goal to ward off vampires :D

Definitely peach. My favorite salsa is a pineapple one that Wegmans makes. I actually throw it on my salads instead of dressing. So good!

Black bean it is for me!

I would love to have your recipe for fresh homemade salsa.

I would love to try the Peach Salsa - sounds yummy! Thanks!

peach salsa is the best! it is making my mouth drool for some. what a great calorie saving ingredient full of flavor for any dish.

Have you ever tried the Peach Salsa? Holy Party-in-your-Mouth. Only one store around here carries it and I totally stock up whenever I'm nearby. DELICIOUS!!

These - especially peach - are so goo that you don't need any other food. . . Just a fork or spoon and the salsa will do just fine!

I would love to try the pineapple and the medium! YUM!

ohh, i want the mexican hot sauce! i love me some spicy goodness!

The peach is divine. We eat it on wheat crackers with a little jalepeno relish or my aunt's favorite, with a little cream cheese. I would LOVE to try the garlic salsa. And though fearful, the Ghost salsa would be interesting (bet my husband would love it).

I've only tried Mrs. Renfro's Green and Hot salsa, both of which I like more than most commercially available brands. Unfortunately, Mrs. Renfro's products are rarely available in my small town. I would love to try the Green Tomato Pickles and the Ghost Pepper Salsa!

I'd like to try the raspberry chipotle. I grill a lot of chicken during the warm months and this would be a really great accompaniment!

The mango habanero and raspberry chipotle salsas sound amazing!

This sounds like a great addition to any meal. I would be very happy to win a sample.

Wow, her combinations look amazing (raspberry chipotle, pomegranate? yes please!) but I'm a peach salsa girl at heart.

I've tried Mrs. Renfro's green salsa and it was love at first bite. I had no idea the company made so many products. I'd love to try more.

I love salsa!

GREEN SALSA! for the longest time i would ALWAYS eat my burrito from this local burrito shop with their green salsa and it was freakin LOVE LOVE LOVE, though my taste buds usually complain at the end XD but then I moved and i never found green salsa that's as spicy and flavorful as that place's D:

So yeah, i would totally get the Green Salsa, since this one's made with jalapeno. I noticed the other green salsa i've had at other mexican restuarnts aren't even spicy!

I think the chipotle corn sounds perfect!

wow they all sound AMAZING!

i do love black bean salsa..

but i would love to try the raspberry chipotle

Green! I love green way more than red when it comes to Mexican flavors. I'll always choose that. The Roasted salsa and the Black Bean salsa sounds like they'd be tied for second, though.

It's gotta be peach!

Peach Salsa is the best!!

My favorite is Mrs. Renfro's Green Salsa!

I tweeted your giveaway!

Hands down the Raspberry Chipotle Salsa! Great with chicken!

I don't like hot food but, I would enjoy the mild salsa. Their website says that the sweet salsas (peach, pineapple, etc.) will cut some of the heat and let you enjoy the flavor. I think those would be great on chicken! :)

They are sound super yummy!! but it would be a toss up between the peach and the chipolte corn

It would be hard to choose a favorite but the Peach and Chipotle Corn both sound great!

I will try the pepper salsa!

Yumm--the Pomegrante Salsa sounds delish!

tweeted!

I love garlic, so I'd have to say the garlic salsa!

Love the black bean salsa and would love to try the roasted salsa. I love every Mrs. Renfro's salsa I've ever had and I love that there are minimal ingredients and they taste so fresh!

I live in Mexico part of the year. Now that I've tried it, I'll have to bring my own salsa with me! Mrs Renfro's is better than what I buy in Mex.

I can't believe I just found the Chipotle Corn Salsa at my local store. I went out and got it after reading your blog. It tastes very good and the ingredients listed are healthy for you. Thank you Lisa for your recommendation.

I had never heard of this... but the corn salsa and the green salsa sound so good. The gumbo recipe sounds great!

Black bean (if I'm looking for spicy) or peach (if I want a little sweet). Yum!

We eat alot of salsa in our house and I have to say the Black Bean is my favorite! A great quick dinner is a baked potato with salsa (any kind) low fat sour cream and a little cheddar cheese. Delicious and filling!

the peach salsa sound delish to me!

I've hot for the Black Bean!!!! I tend to like my salsa like my liquor: save the fruit for the cereal!! You Go, Snack Girl!!

I love to add peach salsa to haddock fish and broil the fish. Also, I dump a jar of the green salsa in my crockpot with pork roast and a couple cloves of garlic for a wonderful entree to serve over yellow rice.

Tequila Salsa

Sounds like a winning combo. I like salsa and I like tequila. Now if we could add tortilla chips that went get soggy in the salsa jar it would be even better.

I love the peach salsa and the garlic salsa@

I ♥ Mrs. Renfro's Peach & Pomegranate Salsas They are both my favorite!

I love Mrs Renfro's Chipotle Corn Salsa, but my all time fav has to be the Green Salsa.

I don't think I could pick just one! They all sound great!

Love the black bean salsa!

The tequilla and green salsa look delicious to me!

Love the green hot salsa. Can't wait to try the Ghost salsa.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE salsa!!!!!! I think that it would be the medium salsa for me on a regular basis!!!

I would love to try any of these salsa, but the chipotle corn salsa sounds good, also the habenero

Chipotle Corn is by far the best salsa

Black Bean Salsa!!

The chipotle corn salsa sounds very good. I love corn in my mexican dishes.

My favorite is Raspberry Chipotle. Sweet and hot, I love it on Chicken.

Roasted Salsa

The Ghost Pepper salsa is most definitely my favorite :)

I love any fruit salsas so I'd have to go with peach!

The green salsa that Renfro makes because I would use it to make lots of tortilla pie!! :)

Habenero Salsa!

I like black bean salsa

I am always a green salsa type of girl but the chipotle corn also sounds really good!

There are so many things I miss about Texas after moving from there to New York, and, next to family, food tops the list. I'm not sure there's such thing as good salsa in NY, and I would be shocked to find something as amazing as Mrs. Renfro's peach salsa here.

Oh golly gosh - even if I won I would not know which 4 to cheese. I would start with the peach though!!

Anything with Black Beans makes it to the top of my list!!! I'd also love to try the peach! Sounds so yummy!! Can't wait to try some!

I would love to try Chipotle Corn Salsa that is Hubby's favorite type of salsa.

Corn salsa is amazing but I haven't seen the pomegranate one before--that's the next one I'm buying for sure!

The Green salsa looks so yummy, and perfect to pour over a poached egg and black beans for a healthy huevo ranchero breakfast. Officially craving this for dinner!

I love the peach, but I believe my son would adore the ghost chili salsa.

Corn and black bean salsa is my favorite too. I love the stuff and have been known to eat it with eegs, chicken and pasta too!!

I'm following you on twitter and just tweeted about this :)

The garlic salsa sounds great!

The Raspberry Chipotle Salsa is delicious and addicting! Open a jar of that and it is gone before you know it.

I am following you on Twitter as njhhb.

It would be so unfair to make me choose which Mrs. Renfro's are my fav's. I can not live without them!

I would love to try the Peach Salsa! Yummy, love salsa.

Gotta have the peach...they remind me of summer and that just makes me happy!!

Love love love green salsa!!

I would love to try the ghost pepper salsa!

I LOVE Mrs. Renfro's Medium Salsa...less than 1 gram of sugar, it packs a punch with no guilt!! So glad you found this...it is a regular snack in my day with Wasa Light Rye Crisps!! :)

hmm i think the garlis salsa or the black bean salsa souds really good

Black Bean Salsa yum, yum in my tummy

Garlic or black bean... maybe the chipotle corn...yum!

Would love to try the garlic salsa!

peach salsa over grilled chicken!

Can you say "died and gone to heaven"

Oh, Baby!!!!

MMMMMM - Black Bean Salsa!!

Mrs. Renfro's Medium Salsa is my style!

Thanks, Cindi

I'd have to go with Pomegranate Salsa because I love pomegranates and I'll try anything once. Plus this brand has never led me astray!

Ooooooo ... Tequila Salsa, definitely!!!!

I love the black bean, but now I'm going to search for the green tomato pickles! YUMMY!

I love the Green Salsa!!!!

Mmmm. Salsa. Us Texas gals just love us some good salsa. I had tex-mex for lunch today at one of the ten-zillion mexican food restaurants in my area. I live near Ft. Worth so I'll have to go hunt this company down. I've never heard of them! For me it'd be the roasted salsa, black bean, peach, chipotle corn... or any of them would work for me. I'm not a huge super-hot-salsa fan. More of a medium heat and lots of flavor, are my faves. I like a few chips with my big bowl of salsa, instead of a little bowl of salsa with my chips, if you know what i mean! ;-)

Roasted Salsa!

Anything Garlic sign me up!!! I think I may have seen these at my local market recently but have stayed away from them because they just dont taste as fresh, but some of those flavors are far too intriguing not to try them!

I would love to try the peach salsa. Sounds nice and summer-y!

We really like the Peach salsa. We probably buy that flavor than any other of Mrs. Renfro's flavors.

Black Bean Salsa is my favorite!

The pineapple salsa sounds like something I could have with my scrambled tofu for breakfast. I already "liked" on facebook!

I love green salsa and black bean salsa but I'd also pick out something unusual for me just to try.

pineapple, definitely!

We use an insane amount of salsa in our house. Between crockpot recipes and snacks for the kids and hubby, salsa is always in demand around here. I am always looking for a new and better salsa. I would love to try many of these flavors!

I Am a mild salsa girl. YOur falvors all look scrumptious though. I think my fam would love to take that ghost pepper challenge. :)

I am drooling all over the keyboard. Black Bean Salsa is a favorite. I'd love to try the Mango Habanero and Ghost Pepper Salsa.

They all sound great, and I would be willing to try any and all.

Raspberry Chipotle

Peach salsa!

I've always been a green salsa fan! The Chipotle Corn looks amazing too! Ok, they ALL look amazing :)

I've been buying Mrs Renfro's salsa for years. I've tried the peach, mango, and pineapple, and the pineapple is BY FAR my favorite. I love eating with carrots, celery, or if I am feeling especially sinful, tortilla chips. Thank you Mrs. Renfro!

Garlic Salsa all the way!!!

Black bean sounds great....

We've been loving the Raspberry Chipotle at our house for a long time.

Habenero with lots of cilantro! Also, mango salsa goes great with cheese & crackers and fish.

The chipotle Corn sounds amazing! I'd also really like to try the pomegranate. Yum!
