Healthy Thanksgiving Recipes You Must Make

Healthy Thanksgiving Recipes 2018

Healthy Thanksgiving recipes are just as easy to make as the unhealthy ones.

It is really about omitting certain ingredients - right? Instead of sweet potatoes with marshmallows do a roasted butternut squash without marshmallows.

No need to pour a stick of butter on your turkey to keep it moist if you have an oven bag!

You can roast your green beans or saute them without adding cream of mushroom soup and deep fried onions - I know you can do it!!

Hey, I get that Thanksgiving has these “family favorites” that every one looks forward to but you can change that over time. People forget about green bean casserole when they taste balsamic roasted green beans. Trust me!

You may have to make both dishes for a few years to ease people into the newness of these recipes. I am sure Thanksgiving this year will be as contentious as it is every year so you don’t want to unnecessarily upset your family and friends.

Where things get truly sticky is desserts. Thanksgiving without pecan pie!! Pecan pie is one of the most calorie filled confections on the planet. I love it - but I never have it because two members of my family are allergic to pecans.

Pretend that you have developed a nut allergy - problem solved.

I am just kidding. If you love it, then have it. Thanksgiving is a celebration and I have no intention of saying that any of the food that we eat is is bad.

I try to keep my portion sizes under control so I don’t get a stomach ache. I use a small salad plate and slowly munch my way through the big meal. One year, I over did it and had to lie down. Ever since that embarrassing event, I have kept it together and not ate myself into a painful situation.

If you are looking for some healthy Thanksgiving recipes to round out your meal - check these out. You never know - you might like them more than the classics.

The key when planning a successful Thanksgiving meal that you make in one kitchen is to figure out what you can cook on the stove, in the microwave, or in countertop appliances (crockpots) when the oven is full of turkey. Unless you're lucky enough to have a double oven!

Thanks Lisa for all these good reminders!I try to keep the My Plate model in mind, it really helps me. Sometimes writing traditional dishes onto a paper plate ahead of time helps too. Thanks for do I what you do, I'm a fan!
