Help Wanda With Her Brussels Sprouts Challenge

November 16, 2010   3 Comments

Yesterday's post on Brussels Sprouts took an exciting turn.

Brussels Sprouts Challenge

Wanda wrote this in the comment section:

I wanna hear from a true blue brussels sprouts hater if you try making this recipe what you really think of the taste. If you like it then I will attempt it myself.

But you really have to not like those nasty veggies and if you're brave enough to try them in this recipe and it turns out you like them (or not) let me know please. PLEASE? Wandamharrison@yahoo.com. Thank you. Got my fingers crossed.

Wow!

I guess she doesn't believe me (sniff) that I moved from a hater to a lover with my recipe. (Wanda - I will send you $5 to try Brussels Sprouts if you PROMISE to spend the money on Brussels Sprouts.)

But, I KNOW there is a Snack Girl reader who will help Wanda with her challenge.

Come on - who will make this recipe - send me a photo of it - and convince Wanda that you now love Brussels Sprouts.

I promise it will change your life.

Anyone game?

(PS Based on reader's feedback, I have changed the roasting temperature of the Brussels Sprouts to 400F from 350F.)

We just blogged about Brussels Sprouts yesterday and offered some recipes as well. We are true Brussels Sprouts lovers! http://foodtrainers.blogspot.com/

Hi Snack Girl! I used your brussels sprouts recipe yesterday for Thanksgiving, and they were a big hit! I hadn't had them before, so I didn't know if I'd like them or not, but I definitely like them cooked this way, and everyone else was marveling at them too. Thanks for introducing me to a new vegetable to add to my repertoire (I do feel sorry for my future children though, because I will be serving them brussels sprouts)!

Hi Snack Girl!

I've been catching up on your snacky-ideas and was excited to see that we do brussel sprouts almost the same way!

I've found that buying a bag of frozen brussel sprouts (The steam ready kind) can make this a much faster fix. I steam them in the microwave first(about 3-5 minutes depending on how many you want), then season them, and then roast them for about 10 minutes instead of a full half hour.

Sometimes I sprinkle a little parmesian cheese and seasoned italian breadcrumbs in with the salt and pepper to make them extra yummy. (And so that my boyfriend won't be SO opposed to them) I know this adds a few calories but it's really not a lot so long as you can control yourself. :)

Thanks for all of your great ideas!

-MJ
