Do you need to be rescued from the “diet rollercoaster”? Maybe you want to learn how to eat healthier on a budget? Well, fear not because Lisa Cain, a.k.a. Snack Girl, is here to help!
Snack Girl will show you how small, easy tweaks can change your lifestyle to be healthier and happier.
This book is packed with encouraging, smart, and sometimes hilarious advice on avoiding common weight-loss pitfalls, shopping healthier on a budget, and getting in shape, along with 100 recipes for fun, quick, and affordable meals and snacks—all of which clock in under 400 calories and are Weight Watchers friendly. There are no gimmicks, no short-cuts, it's simply a healthy balanced guide to how you are supposed to live.
The recipes have been tested by home chefs and are delicious, easy, and simple. Over 50 have not been published on Snack-Girl.com (Recipe List).
Publisher's Weekly's Review (January 2014):
There are skinny girls and fit moms, and there are snack girls. Blogger Cain falls in the latter camp, offering sensible, non-judgmental dietary advice compiled into this healthy eating guide/cookbook.
Cain candidly shares her own experiences with failed diets and some of the lessons she’s learned along the way—liquid diets are impossible to maintain, eliminating whole food groups is maddening, journaling can keep you on track. The point here is that no matter what the approach, anyone interested in weight loss and maintenance can use an arsenal of healthy, actually tasty foods for daily eating.
Cain’s accessible recipes are designed with less than 400 calories per serving (they are indexed by calorie count). Indulgence is not a dirty word for Cain. Less-healthy foods like pancakes are enriched with yogurt and banana; a tuna melt subs red pepper for bread; and mini pecan pies are baked into airy fillo shells. There are even some low-calorie cocktails for kicking back after a long day of cooking.
With humor and common sense, Cain’s diet book manages to distinguish itself from the legions of holier-than-thou advice mongers.

Q & A
Q: Why did you write a book?
A: For a long time, I wanted to write a book. Call me crazy, but I like paper and the feeling of a book in my hand. It was a dream of mine that has come true.
A book is very different from a blog. Here on Snack-Girl.com, I toss out 200 words per day, 4 days per week, and hope that they help. A book allows me to dive deeper into the subjects that I care about and share the story of my journey to healthy.
Think of Snack-Girl.com as a five-minute conversation with me (and my readers) every day. Instead of a five-minute conversation, you get two or more hours of insights, tips, advice, stories, and recipes to make you smile and encourage you to get healthy.
Q: Why should I buy your book? I read your posts every day for free.
A: First of all, I included 20 of the top recipes on Snack Girl. If you have a bunch of floating sheets of paper in your kitchen with my recipes, now you can have a bound copy.
Secondly, there are over 50 recipes that will not EVER be published on Snack Girl. These are some of my best and I developed them for the book.
Snack Girl To The Rescue! is filled with NEW tips and advice in a longer format and in a context that isn’t on Snack-Girl.com. This is not a rehash of what I already do because that would be silly. There is so much more in the book.
Finally, while I would love to be able to give away all my ideas and recipes on the site, I can’t make a living as a real-life healthy guru without a book.

I feel like I have been given a set of super powers to arm me in the grocery aisles.
Jessica D. Riverdale, UT:
I truly loved reading this book. It is a fun, no hype, no nonsense read. Not only was it funny but incredibly educational. The knowledge gained from reading Snack Girl To The Rescue is immeasurable. Snack Girl has the ability to make the reader feel as though she is sitting at the kitchen table chatting with a close friend rather than reading a book. Snack Girl simplifies nutrition labels & reveals the games that food manufacturers play. I feel like I have been given a set of super powers to arm me in the grocery aisles. The recipes Snack Girl shares with her readers are so simple, easy & delicious. A few of my favorites are the tuna avocado dip, crunchy kale chips, & roasted veggies with pasta. This is a book that I will always keep within reach & refer to often. My friends will be sure to hear about Snack Girl's book. Thank you so very much Snack Girl.
Brutally honest, direct AND funny

I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to read some true, real information about food....
Angie M. Dallas, Texas:
Snack Girl has been one of my favorite daily emails for the past few years. Her insights are witty, straightforward, and real. She has taken this same approach to her new book, and I enjoyed it very much. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to read some true, real information about food and snacking from someone who's been there, done that. And even so, Snack Girl is always looking for new and better ways to make good choices for herself and her family, and wants to help us all do the same. She makes her choices and gives advice from her own real world experiences as well as those of her family. If you enjoy good reading and better understanding and good advice about real food, this book is for you.
I could personally relate to so much...
Donna S., Rocklege PA:
I often visit Lisa's website, Snack Girl for recipes and snack ideas so I was very excited when asked to review her cookbook. Once I sat down to look at it, I was pleasantly surprised at all Lisa shared about her own experience and struggles. I could personally relate to so much and found her insight on many subjects (diets, organic vs. non, healthy habits) very informative and in a language I could understand. It's not just a cookbook. I have already shared it with my family!
There are no gimmicks, no short cuts, it's just how you are supposed to live a healthy balanced life.
Jennifer D, Oakley, CA:
Yes I would recommend. I thought the book was real. There are no gimmicks, no short cuts, it's just how you are supposed to live a healthy balanced life. Lisa shows us in this book, that nobody is perfect and with a few minor tweaks, you can change your lifestyle, be happy and be healthy. The book helped me because it showed the feelings I had towards food that I wasn't alone. Food is comforting, fun and ohhh so tasty. You can still have all that wonderful food with a few modifications and learning to limit yourself from the bad food. After all what is life without a cup of ice cream? I really enjoyed reading Snack Girl to the Rescue and I couldn't put it down. The recipes are great and easy to make. I highly recommend this book.
I plan to buy this book for my friends and family
Mary H, Connellsville, PA:
I absolutely recommend this book. In fact, I plan to buy this book for my friends and family. I love the Snack girl site and this book is an expansion of practical, fun and healthy advice. It's not another "diet" book, but shows you how small changes can make a difference in how you feel and live. Recommend it to anyone looking to get off the diet roller coaster.
It is not a "diet" book, it is a book to reshape your life.
Trevor L, Green Bay, WI:
I really like the common sense approach Snack Girl has to weight loss. She talks about previous failures which are important to hear, because it gives a strong social proof for her beliefs. It gives great specifics without causing confusion. It is not a "diet" book, it is a book to reshape your life. It is a good "been there, done that" story and is one that many of us can relate to. Great recipes that are easy to make.
Never preachy, reading this book is like talking to a friend that knows a lot about nutrition and eating right.
Maria D, Braintree, MA:
I get my little dose of "healthy" each morning with an email from Snack Girl. Now, Lisa Cain (a.k.a. Snack Girl) has compiled all of that knowledge and more into a book. In addition to simple, healthful recipes, you get a lot of good, common sense guidance and encouragement. Never preachy, reading this book is like talking to a friend that knows a lot about nutrition and eating right.
As a follower of Lisa's Snack Girl website I love all the new healthy recipes!
Barbara L, Madison, CT:
Lisa Cain's ''Snack Girl To The Rescue'' is a fun, witty, enlightening and sensible approach to answering today's big food questions; what can I eat, what is safe to eat, and can I enjoy food again? I found her style refreshing [sometimes hilarious] and the content relevant to navigating the 21st century grocery store aka food jungle of deceptive marketing, labeling and health claims. No longer able to shop or eat with abandon, Lisa neatly outlines the new rules including what to be most aware of: salt, sugar, fat, [the ubiquitous addictions] how to survive the deceptions, eat well along the way, and be happy! As a follower of Lisa's Snack Girl website I love all the new healthy recipes! Snack Girl To The Rescue is for everyone who loves to eat, cook and nourish their family and friends the very best way possible given today's food sources!
