Dash Egg Cooker Review: Is it Worth it?

December 15, 2019   19 Comments

This Dash Egg Cooker review is for all those people who wonder if they need yet another kitchen appliance.

Dash Egg Cooker Review

I was wondering the same thing myself when I saw one of these bad boys at the church sale on my block. I purchased this egg cooker for $2 - which is quite a bit less than its list price of $15.

I find that it is best when contemplating a new kitchen appliance to find one at Goodwill or borrow one from a friend so you don’t waste too much money. Lucky for me, this Dash Egg Cooker was new in the box. You can buy one at Amazon Dash Egg Cooker.

Why an egg cooker? I love soft boiled eggs.

If you have never tried one, check out my post on soft boiled eggs. The egg yolk is heated through but not solid which is delicious.

I also love using hard boiled eggs in recipes and there are a few good choices in my post Weight Watchers Egg Recipes. WW has included eggs on the zero points list of two of the WW plans - Purple and Blue.

Eggs are cheap, nutritious, and low in calories so I am a fan. If you like them, you might want to try an egg cooker because it does make it easier to cook them. You simply set it up, walk away, and when your eggs are finished this egg cooker SCREAMS at you. BEEEEEEEEPPPP!!!

How does it work? You get a little cup that tells you how much water to add for soft boiled, medium and hard boiled eggs.

You pour the water into this tray which heats up the water under the eggs. You insert a plastic tray and then add 1-6 eggs.

You plug it in and turn it on. Then, the water heats up to a boil.

Basically, the unit is steaming your eggs and it finishes when all the water evaporates.

The amount of time that the eggs are cooking is not set. What happens is the egg cooker beeps when it is out of water. More water means more time cooking so hard boiled eggs take the longest - about 8-10 minutes. Soft boiled eggs cook for about 4-5 minutes.

I found that this unit made perfect hard boiled eggs. My soft boiled eggs were a bit underdone so I added more water for the next round and they were perfect.

I think the Dash Egg Cooker is a pretty cool appliance for those who love eggs or who want to eat soft boiled eggs in the morning and are in a rush. It is small so it doesn’t take up too much space and handy.

Have you tried an egg cooker? What did you think?

LOVE my Dash. Had one, lost the cup and called Dash- they replaced free of charge! Then that one finally gave out after years of heavy use and we bought a double decker Dash. Boils up to an entire dozen of eggs. Perfect every. Single. Time. I definitely cannot say that about my boil method. Great products, great company

I bought a Dash egg cooker a year or two ago. Not for the cooking egg function, but because it promised the eggs would be easy to peel. I have tried every method to cook peelable eggs - fresh eggs, old eggs, vinegar in the water, whatever. None of them worked. The Dash cooker did, at least with minimal problems. I only use it a few times a year (on special occasions to make deviled eggs for my daughter) but I consider it well worth the money I paid (admittedly, $2 would have been better than $15. Oh well, say la eve).

And I should add, the eggs don't crack during cooking, so you have all this lumpy egg white spilling out of the now unusable egg.

A friend gifted me this after hearing me complain having to dig out a pot & set up stove to cook one egg!(in motor home) It was so easy - I love this thing! Works every time & shells easily come off!

I love my Dash! Cooks perfectly every time. I even have an extra one as backup

I love mine!! I have never had a problem peeling the hard boiled eggs. It’s easy and fast, and takes up very little space in my cupboard.

I absolutely love this egg cooker. Cooks perfect hard boiled eggs that peel easily and the yolks are not real dry! Our dog insists on & waits for his daily egg and this makes it a cinch!

My mom LOVES hers. She even brought it with her when we stayed at an Airbnb in Vegasz

The main, most important, reason of all reasons...to buy an egg cooker is steaming eggs makes them easy to peel! I, like other writers, have tried every method known to man and the internet - and they all fail miserably when compared with peeling eggs cooked in these little steam machines. Now I look forward to making deviled eggs for family feasts!

I have been using these egg cookers for years. I use the double ones that cook a dozen at at time. when I devil eggs for church functions or family parties I make 40, so always cook 2 dozen in my Dashes so I can have them done in a short time. Best peeling eggs ever.

Reluctantly purchased this item, just wanted to see what all the hype was about. Best purchase for 2019, I know couldn’t believe it, but my farmers market eggs taste even better. Easy to use, boiled eggs are easier to peel and voila! just sit back and enjoy.

Also love mine. Just wanted to say that the new ones (I got mine a year ago, so not even that new) don't scream at you. It plays a loud song, so much better than the earlier models.

Love my egg cooker. The metal plate always turns brown, after using...Easy cleanup; just pour a small amount of apple cider vinegar onto the heating plate and simply wipe dry and CLEAN with a paper towel...It's like new, every time!

LOVE my Dash egg steamer, but in your review, you forgot to mention one essential step, the bottom of the water cup has a needle tip to put a hole in the top of the egg, so it doesn't explode...

very important, pierces easily...LOVE it

I don't have a DASH, but these cookers are all about the same. THE reason to buy one is to facilitate peeling boiled eggs, with the second reason (for me) being an easy way to get those soft-boiled eggs I love. Sometimes a little egg white will ooze out the air hole and cook on the shell. But who cares? I'm not afraid of a little egg white - and the rest of the egg is still good!

We love ours and uses it several times a week. Makes the best poached eggs & I use it when making deviled eggs.

Got this for Christmas 2020 and use it twice a week. Perfectly done hard boiled eggs that peel so easily...favorite gift of the holiday!

I am not sure mine is a dash brand as I have had my egg cooker for years. I love it. Not only for boiled eggs but for a quick "omelet"

NO to piercing the eggs - it's unnecessary and makes a mess if whites ooze out the holes.🥚

YES to cheap plain vinegar on the heating surface to clean it like new.🌻

I, too, was cynical about yet another appliance taking up space in my small kitchen, but a double-decker was gifted to me, and later on an extended trip away from home, I bought a like-new Egguru 7-egg cooker at Goodwill for about $2.50.🙂

Both have worked perfectly, and I've abandoned boiling eggs in a pan on the stove❣️
