Check Out These New Snack Finds

Someone called Doug sent me these nuts. Guess what he calls them? Doug's Nuts!
You can't make this stuff up.
I gotta tell you, if Doug wants to send me his nuts, I will say YES! every time. These are SO delicious. Doug lives in Eugene, Oregon and has been working on his nut recipe for a while.
From Doug's Nuts:
The intrepid food alchemist toiled and struggled in the sweltering kitchen, searching for that elusive quintessential combination of salt, sweet and savory flavor until finally, limp and nearly spent, he pulled one last batch from the roasting oven and set it aside to cool.
Then he decided that they didn't "suck". My experience was that I couldn't stop eating them. I would treat these as a nutritious TREAT - he added a wee bit of sugar and salt to these nuts and so you are getting a few extra calories - but these are worth it.
You can buy Doug's Nuts on his website here: Doug's Nuts Store where a 6 pack of his fabulous nuts can be purchased for $30 (free shipping).
For one ounce = 160 calories, 14 g fat, 7 g carbohydrates, 5 g protein, 3.5 g fiber, 85 mg sodium, 5 Points+
Now I am going to feature one of the biggest snack food companies in America - Doug's Nuts is going to wonder what it is doing on the same page as KRAFT - but, hey, this is my website so I can do crazy stuff.
Kraft sent me the MilkBite's photographed above to try - and I like them. They are found in the dairy aisle or a refrigerated case because they contain (wait for it) MILK. They are near the pudding right now in your local grocery store. My children went crazy for these.
What do I like about them? Well, first I liked how they tasted. They had a nice sweet, oatmeal cookie, fresh taste. The first ingredient is whole grain - and they are only 140 calories each - which is a good calorie size for a snack.
Here is the ingredient list for the chocolate flavor (no artificial colors or flavors):
Rolled oats, sugar, cream (from milk), skim milk, inulin, soy protein crisp, chocolate, canola oil, calcium phosphate, brown rice syrup, oat flour, molasses, cocoa butter, palm kernal oil, honey, salt, cocoa powder, soy lecithin, natural flavor, palm oil, vitamin D3
Here are the nutrition facts:
For one bar = 140 calories, 6 g fat, 18 g carbohydrates, 10 g sugar, 5 g protein, 3 g fiber, 75 mg sodium, 4 Points+
As far as a packaged granola bar goes, these are pretty good. Yes, they have 2 teaspoons of sugar in them (argh), but they also have protein, fiber, etc. I think I would treat these as a treat for my kids. You can freeze them and put them in their lunchbox and they will stay fresh.
They retail for $3.49 per package.
Looking for sweet tea without any sugar or artificial sweetener added? Look no further than Sokenbicha from Japan. It has zero calories and it still tastes sweet.
Actually, Sokenbicha is a Coca-Cola product sold in Japan and now it is here. So, I guess it starts out in Atlanta, visits Japan, and then flies back :)
Here are their different flavors:
Revive – Crisp Oolong Tea blend with natural botanicals. Ingredients include: Oolong Tea Leaves, Black Tea Leaves, Rose Petals, Rose Hips, Ginseng.
Defend – Mild Oolong Tea blend with natural botanicals. Ingredients include: Oolong Tea Leaves, Black Tea Leaves, Guava Leaves, Ginseng.
Purify – Aromatic Green Tea blend with natural botanicals. Ingredients include: Green Tea Leaves, Oolong Tea Leaves, Black Tea Leaves, Chamomile, Aloe.
Shape – Bold Barley Tea blend with natural botanicals. Ingredients include: Roasted Pearl Barley, Roasted Rice, Pu’er Tea Leaves, Green Tea Leaves, Roasted Brown Rice, Young Barley Leaves.
Skin – Full-bodied Barley Tea blend with natural botanicals. Ingredients include: Roasted Pearl Barley, Roasted Rice, Pu’er Tea Leaves, Green Tea Leaves, Roasted Brown Rice, Young Barley Leaves, Cinnamon, Ginger.
I liked it because it uses the herbs to make it sweet and it has a subtle flavor. It retails for $1.99 for one bottle and can be found here: Sokenbicha Retailers.
