My local supermarket is Stop & Shop, and I frequently buy their Nature’s Promise line of products.
Why?
They are easy to find and make it effortless for me to choose USDA Certified organic products and “Free From” products. For example, the Grass Fed Beef from Nature’s Promise is raised with no hormones, no antibiotics, and has a 100% vegetarian diet.
I always try to buy organic beef when I see it because I feel it is better for my family and the environment. My family lives near a farming community and I like that the pesticides used in organic farming are organic versus chemical products. Organic farming helps keep chemical fertilizers and pesticides out of our air, water, and soil.
Nature’s Promise is not only found in the meat section. The brand includes affordable choices such as canned beans, chicken stock, and diced and whole canned tomatoes, as well as many other choices.
I use the Nature’s Promise ground beef, kidney beans, black beans, and whole tomatoes in my favorite cocoa chili recipe.
I love this recipe because I can store the cans and freeze the beef for a later date. Whenever I run out of time to go to the store, I grab these ingredients out of my pantry and cook a quick meal.
I changed my recipe a bit by adding the fresh corn you can find this time of year. I love summer corn and it sweetens up my chili a little bit. The cocoa adds a depth of flavor to chili that balances the acidity of the tomatoes.
My children love this chili and always ask for it to be put in their school lunch box. Serve it over rice, a baked potato, pasta, or on its own. Add hot sauce to make it spicier and cheese or avocado to dress it up.

Cocoa Chile Recipe
Makes 12 cups
Ingredients
3 ears fresh corn
1 pound Nature’s Promise organic ground beef
1-28 ounce can Nature’s Promise whole peeled tomatoes
1-15.5 ounce can Nature’s Promise black beans, drained and rinsed
2-15.5 ounce cans Nature’s Promise kidney beans, drained and rinsed
2 tablespoons good-quality chili powder
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon cumin
Instructions
Shuck corn and remove silk. Stand corn up on a cutting board and run a chef’s knife down the side of the corn removing all the kernels. Place kernels in a small bowl reserving for later use.
Brown the ground beef in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. When the meat is browned, drain the fat from the pan. Add the tomatoes with their juices, breaking up whole tomatoes with a wooden spoon. Add the beans, chili powder, cocoa, and cumin. Heat to a simmer and taste for salt. Add the corn kernels. Cook for about 10 minutes at a low simmer. Serve plain or over rice or pasta.
This chili improves in the fridge overnight and freezes well.
