Two Ingredient, Low Calorie, Vegan and Yummy!: Banana Peanut Butter Ice Cream

Snack Girl knows you want to detox right now. How could you have done all that damage?

Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream

I want to be clear that I don’t think overindulging at the holidays is a bad thing. The holidays are a WINTER festival. Festivals include feasting and before indoor plumbing and insulation, we humans had to eat a lot to keep from starving to death in the winter.

Alas, we now have overheated homes, cars, and televisions so we add feasting to college football and sitting on the couch.

I am a very good couch sitter (it is one of my top ten skills along with napping, sleeping, lounging, and reading).

Obviously, now is not the time for ice cream. BUT, what if it was ice cream that you made yourself and it had almost zero grams of saturated fat?

The key is these bad boys:

Yes, those bananas that no one wants to eat because they look disgusting? They are sitting on your counter right now – looking at you. These are what make the “faux ice cream” sweet.

All you do is slice them, freeze them, blend them with some peanut butter and viola! This is tasty and hits that sweet, salty, fatty note that we love in sweets without the animal fat.

If you have a high power blender, use it for this recipe. I have a $50 blender so I use my food processor to get the right consistency.

Yum! Add a drizzle of dark chocolate & life is perfect!

I put the old bananas in the freezer just as they are. Then just thaw for a few minutes before peeling and slicing. I just blend the banana and add a few chocolate chips! I don't care for peanut butter.

I was wondering about an alternative. I have a newly discovered allergy to peanut butter. (odd rashes have appeared over the years, only recently i have discovered a common place where i eat the peanut butter and some undefined hours later itchy rashes.)I'm not fond of other nut butters And I am over chocolate (they put it on everything...nifty idea though.

I've always heard about making banana ice cream this way but I've only tried it once and I didn't love it. I blame it on the blender. Now that I have a nice spiffy blender I can try it; the only problem is that that my husband and son eat bananas faster than I can keep them. I don't know if I'll ever see a brown banana again ;)

I understand it is always healthier to have low ingredients and fresh healthy ingredients but it is still a bit shocking that there are so many calories in a 1/4 cup

Maybe try PB2 peanut butter powder for lower fat & calories? Didn't see the 1/4 cup serving size - that is pretty tiny. (I bought PB2 but haven't used it for much yet... might have to try this!)

It IS yummy...for 1/4C. however, imo too many calories for too few licks! but, to each his own.

and aleya: if you want to check out a variety of flavors for banana softserve...go over to theKitchn website. there are a huge number of terrific alternatives to peanut butter as the mix in.

I made a mistake the serving size is 4 ounces or 1/2 cup. Whoops! This serving has 14% of your DV of iron.

What you have to think about is how this is doing your body good.

Thanks so much for your comments - keep 'em coming!

I have the Yoannas machine. I love it. I make strawberry banana, cherry banana, mixed berry and banana. Great flavors!

I love ice cream so this is a great alternative for me.If I'm eating a banana anyway, might as well make it into 'ice cream'.

Oooooo! This is a lovely idea. I love banana and peanut butter smushed together but had never thought to turn it into a frozen treat. For all the calorie watchers out there, consider the fact that you could eat this for lunch, it's that nutritious!

Aleya- instead of nutbutters, pb2 or chocolate, try vanilla soy milk plus the frozen bananas. I've been making this banana Icecream for years and had the yonana and have tried a lot of creations. Enjoy !

Love this recipe - one of my favorites - so easy & no special equipment needed.

Michelle- That is actually a very good idea. It didn't even cross my mind to do that. Duh.. We're talking ice cream. Thanks for the eye opener! :)

I've had a Champion Juicer for 40 years....we've been freezing whole bananas and feeding them through this amazing machine into cups for all that time--just like soft-serve ice cream! Bananas just by themselves this way are delicious! We also freeze goat's milk and a tiny bit of honey in a pan, then cut it and put it through the juicer. I love the idea of adding peanut butter! Thanks, Lisa!

Is the serving size 1/4 cup or 4 ounces? You've stated both, but 4 ounces is 1/2 cup...

@Lisa - I made a BIG mistake and the serving size is actually 4 ounces - which is 1/2 cup (not 1/4 cup - sheesh). I fixed it in the above recipe. Thanks for catching this!

Remember it's healthy fats which has been shown to help lose weight. Also remember to use NATURAL nut butter, no added sugar. Fat free is not always best. Love this thanks Lisa.

I also love a similar snack: mixing low-fat ricotta or plain greek yogurt with PB2 or peanut butter.

When did you sneak in to take that pic of my bananas?? No worries, I just popped them in the freezer. ;)

Thanks for the suggestions, can't wait to try it this afternoon!

Technically, the whole batch would only be 5 points because fruit on the points+ plan is free (0 points). So the only thing you are tracking here is the peanut butter. Making 1 cup = to about 3 points.

WOW!! This is amazing. I was curious because I love ice cream but don't love the calories and I was very surprised at how yummy this was! TY!

Can't wiat to try out this yummy snack!!!

Hi, this recipe was listed under the 0 points plus section. Just letting you know. I've made this and it really is delicious. Thank you for your wonderful website!

Lisa, let us know your recipe & results if you experiment using powdered PB. Thanks. =)

I went to a restaurant that served tahini ice cream and decided to try adding tahini to the bananas as I am not too fond of peanut butter. Amazing! I am lactose intolerant, so bananas are perfect for a frozen treat. Thanks for all your wonderful ideas!
