WW New Plan 2020: Purple Review
January 2, 2020 10 Comments
WW’s (Weight Watchers) new program for 2020 includes a Purple Plan. WW went with colors for the titles of their plans in order not to stigmatize any of them.
You can’t really argue that purple is a better color than blue or green, right? In case you missed it, WW rolled out a new program for 2020 that includes 3 plans - see New WW Changes 2020.
So far, I have taken a look at one of the colors check out - WW New Plan 2020: Blue Review.
The purple plan is like the old Simply Filling. The concept is that you get a large list of zero points foods to eat from and you eat mostly from the list. You also get a few discretionary points for when you want to eat food that isn’t on the list.
The WW Purple plan zero points foods list is a who’s who of healthy food. If everyone ate off this list even 25% of the time, I believe we could be a much healthier nation.
The list includes whole grains, lean meats, beans, and a ton of fruits and vegetables. You can also eat fish, non-fat dairy and eggs. It is a great list.
How does Purple compare to the other plans? This is an example of one recipe and how being on Purple plays out.
Green counts the chicken and wild rice, chicken broth and milk. The rest of the ingredients are zero points. Blue allows chicken to be zero points but it counts the wild rice, chicken broth, and milk. Purple only counts the chicken broth and the milk. Check out this delicious Slow Cooker Creamy Chicken Wild Rice Soup.
Purple is a fantastic plan for those who hate to count and just want to eat without worrying about calories. The downside of Purple is for those of us who really need to count. You can overdo the zero point foods on Purple if you decide that you can eat past when you are full.
You still need to have impulse control on Purple so that you don’t overeat the healthy foods. Obviously, it is much better to overeat healthy foods than unhealthy foods so don’t beat yourself up - but Purple doesn’t provide some with the accountability that they need.
I think all of us should print out the Purple ZeroPoint food list and try to eat off of it as much as possible.
