2 Ingredient Dough Bagels: The Easiest Bagel Recipe on the Planet

2 ingredient dough bagels? Yes! Frankly, I was skeptical of this famous Weight Watcher’s recipe.

2 Ingredient Dough Bagels: The Easiest Bagel Recipe on the Planet

I am a bagel snob. You will never find a supermarket fake bagel in my house. A former New Yorker, I also travel to Quebec every year.

Have you ever tasted a Montreal bagel? They cook them in a wood fired oven. Just the thought of them makes my mouth water.

Since I am not going anywhere and not buying anything - I decided to try this 2 ingredient dough recipe because I heard rave reviews.

Notice how the photo includes four ingredients - don’t worry! The seasoning and egg are optional.

If you don’t have self-rising flour you can make it with 1 cup of flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt. This bag was actually the only flour that I found in my local supermarket.

This seasoning can be found Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Costco, and you can make it!

Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend with sea salt, garlic, and onion is really wonderful for tossing onto these bagels or anything that could use some zip. This is great on avocado toast as well.

I don’t like attempting healthy baked goods because they are usually a failure. My healthy banana blueberry oatmeal muffins recipe and pumpkin angel food cake recipe are exceptions.

To make 2 ingredient dough bagels all you do is mix the yogurt and flour together in a bowl until it forms a sticky dough.

You toss that dough onto a floured surface with well-floured hands.

Knead the dough (adding flour as you go) to get to the point of having elastic dough that is not sticky. This should take about three minutes.

Now comes the fun part! You get to make shapes! Divide the dough into 4 pieces and roll a 7 inch long tube. Bring the ends of the tube together and pinch them to make a circle.

You can put them into the oven without any embellishments or you can add an egg wash (simply an egg white beaten brushed on top of the bagel) and some seasoning.

You can get the Everything But the Bagel stuff or you can add whatever you have in your spice drawer - sesame seeds, poppy seeds, kosher salt, dash of cumin, cinnamon - whatever!

You can mix in raisins or chocolate chips if you want to be fancy.

These bake for about 30 minutes at 375 F.

These do not come out like a dense bagel - they are more fluffy like an English muffin - BUT they are absolutely delicious. Like YUM!

Have you tried to make 2 ingredient dough bagels? How did it go? What did you put on them or in them?

I make these bagels all the time but I always make my own self rising flour! I use bread flour or high-gluten flour instead of regular flour when I make it...the bagels are fantastic!

Great idea- thank you for sharing!

I hope Snack Girl & all of her readers are warm & well :)

@LuAnn - that is a really good idea! I am going to try them with bread flour (more protein!). Thanks for sharing!

THANK YOU!

I've been wanting to try these but haven't been able to shop for self rising flour (stay home/save lives.) With your recipe, I can bake some today!

i make them and instead of doing the bagel shape i make them into 4 balls and stuff into the middle either peanut butter or laughing cow cheese. I use either 1 wedge of laughing cow for all 4 or about 1½ tsp peanut butter for the 4 balls and bake as usual. Points will vary depending on brand and total amount of pb

I make these all the time. I have found the best yogurt for these is Fage. The dough is less sticky and you don’t have to add additional flour. I also mix the bagel topping into the flour. Way easier and less waste than trying to get it to stick. I also found ground caraway to make rye bagels

I've made these a few times and really enjoy them. I made my own "Everything but the Bagel" seasoning with a recipe found on the net. Enjoy....

Makes 5 tablespoons
2 tablespoons poppy seeds
2 tablespoons white sesame seeds

1 1/2 tablespoons dehydrated chopped onion

1 tablespoon dehydrated minced garlic (not granules)

1/2 tablespoon flaked sea salt

Add all the ingredients to a small jar and shake or stir to combine. Use as desired.

I know what Science will look like for us today! Thanks for the recipe, Lisa! Thanks to everyone for tips...Enjoy, and whatever you do, stay safe and sound with your families, at home!

Thanks for the reminder. I was jus able to snag the exact bag of King Arthur that you show here. Good to know about the bread flour for future reference and Fage yogurt. The Everything But the Bagel seasoning has been popping up (different brands, of course) in the supermarket. I also got one in BJ's. Thanks everyone for the tips and DIY seasoning. Also, I have diverticulosis and the seeds can be problematic. If anyone with seed issues doesn't find this too gross, I grind mine to pulverize the seeds. It's working just fine! I also make everything bagel oatmeal. I put 1 t. whipped cream cheese and some bagel seasoning into my oatmeal for a savory treat.

As Dolores says you can buy the bagel seasoning other places, in fact King Arthur Flour sells it.

This is my go to for bread. I do it a little differently. I like to add sunflower seeds and the pat it out to a rectangle shape. Once this is done, I cut it into 8 smaller rectangles and bake them for the same time. These fit into the toaster. I add about 1/4 butter after toasting and shake a dash of parmigiana on top. The seeds and cheese make it a higher protein bread.

I make these often and also use the dough to make individual pizza crust.

These are awesome! I use the Easy Bagel Recipe from skinnytaste.com (very similar to Snack Girl recipe), but she has directions for baking them in an air-fryer. Bake at 280 degrees for 16 minutes, no need to flip! I am blind, so my hubby helps me a little bit, but these are a cinch. We mix up the dough and ‘bake’ 2 bagels and refrigerate the other 2 (dinner tonight) for later, so we eat fresh bagels each time! Be well!

I was excited to try these bagels. But then, mine turned put nothing like bagels but more like English Muffins or Crumpets. I followed the directions for making your own self rising flour. Oh well.

u can "google" diy recipe 4 the seasoning recipe.

Wow - you guys can find flour? The sheleves here have been empty of flour and yeast - all kinds!!

Before baking I boil them in water with a little baking soda added, I minute on the first side, gently flip to the second side for another 30 seconds. Also I make King Arthur Whole Wheat Flour into self-rising for a change of pace.

I wonder if almond or oatmeal flour would work with the additions of the baking powder and salt. AND I wonder if a non dairy yogurt would be OK?

★★★★★

@Carolrossi - I am so sorry - you are right that these are fluffier like a crumpet than a true bagel. I am going to change the post to reflect that issue. Thank you so much for commenting!

@Marylou - those changes are pretty extreme. I am not sure you would get the same type of bagel but why not try it? Thanks for your question!

Has anyone tried using a non dairy yogurt?

I want to try this using King Arthur unbleached bread flour. Do I need to add the baking soda and salt?

@Marlene - you need to add the baking powder and salt. Tell me how it works out!

King Arthur sells the topping also.

https://shop.kingarthurflour.com/items/everything-bagel-top…

My local bagel shop sells it too.

I'm celiac and am wondering if the self-rising corn meal would work as well as the flour. Thoughts? I might give it a try now that I have time on my hands :)

FYI, Costco also sells an everything seasoning. Thanks for everyone's tips, especially the reminder that we can integrate seasoning into the dough (not just on top) and aren't limited to bagels. The recipe is versatile - try different seasonings (savory or sweet), divide into different shapes & sizes, turn it into pizza, breadsticks, pretzels, and more. =)

Made this today. Had to make my own self rising flour. They looked good but my big mistake was not putting them on parchment paper to bake. I can’t get them off the baking pan. Eating them in chunks but pretty tasty. Used the last of my Everything but the Bagel on them.

These were AMAZING!!!! Thank you, Lisa!

Would this work with GF flour? I can’t have gluten but love bagels.

I would be Bob Red Mill GF baking flour would work. Let us know if you try it, Paula.

I made this using part self-rising corn mix and 1/2 Bob's Red Mill 1 for 1 flour. I added the baking soda and baking powder to the flour, which wasn't self-rising. They were great!

I make them as scones adding the seasoning to the dough. I also make sweet ones using frozen blueberries and Stevia. Heat them with a little jelly. Yummy

I love 2 ingredient recipes. This is the next one I will try. Thank you everyone for your special tips.

Can you suggest a good air fryer for a widow? Sometimes my grandchildren come by and love chicken nuggets etc and I want to try new recipes. Thank you.

I make this recipe for bagels a lot . Tonight I made bread sticks . So easy and yummy.

I wanted to thank you for still giving the smart points info..some of us go by the theory of, "If it works, don't fix it".

I (sadly) have a dairy sensitivity. Has anyone tried these using dairy free yogurt?

These are one of the easiest and yummiest baked goods I’ve made in a while. Also, reasonably healthy! I use whole fat yogurt, which creates a lovely mouth-feel. I am somewhat addicted to a version with an egg wash and sesame seeds. My 15-year-of son —a bagel snob —gobbled these up!! Although we both agree the texture is not really bagel-ish, they are indeed delicious!

I need to give these a try. FYI while I love Trader Joe's "Everything" seasoning, Amazon has the same thing but it is a SALT FREE version (you can buy it in a giant container too), I use it for eggs and so many other things!

This is a very mediocre bagel recipe. It doesn't taste anything like a bagel.

Snack Girl, it would be nice to state when you are re-posting something you posted at an earlier date. I felt like I've been seeing that occasionally, but I wasn't sure until this post. I had bookmarked the original version of this post to try, I think in 2020, but now when I go to that bookmark, it leads here. There's nothing wrong with re-posting, but I think you should acknowledge it.

i think the sodium count is off plugging just the yogurt and the flour into mfp dividing by 4 its 388 mg sodium each. unless i did something wrong. i would be higher with the rest of it. i pay attention to sodium bc of blood pressure issues.

Please remember all probiotics are killed when heated! Everything that uses yogurt and is heated, the probiotics are dead! This recipe is great, just don't use it to get probiotics in your system. Soooooo, expensive Fage is wasted in this recipe. Eat Fage cold or room temp. Recipe should work with sour cream, cottage cheese that is blended, too. I use this recipe more for baking flat pieces and toasting later. Very similar to English muffins. Yum! JJ

I thought they needed more salt after tasting the final product, but then re-read above and thought perhaps I could have shaken some salt on them before baking. Next time I might do what other readers did and bake the seasoning in the dough.
