Don’t Have Time for an Exercise Class? Join the “Not Going to the Club” Club

I don’t know about you but I find it hard to get to the gym because I am so busy.

Favorite Fitness Channel

I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how little exercise I need to get by – check out my articles - How Much Exercise Do You Need for a Longer Life? and the scintillating Who Needs Cross-Fit? Five Minutes is All You Need.

Call me lazy or maybe just pragmatic because I don't love exercise and I can always come up with an excuse to avoid it.

I happen to kinda enjoy group exercise classes (except for Step – argh) because it is much more fun to work out with other people than on my own but sometimes I can’t get there and therefore I do nothing. Should I give up?

Should I buy a treadmill, stationary bike or put a gym in my garage? No!!

Instead, I have started to use a tool that can be found right here on your computer or phone. The secret is….YOUTUBE!! (duh)

I have fallen in love with Jessica Smith TV because she makes it so ridiculously easy to get a workout in.

Check out this workout that takes only five minutes, requires no equipment, and can be done in a small space:

Isn’t that great? What I really love is how her dog is either sleeping or walking in and out of the frame. Not only is this woman an excellent fitness instructor – she is a dog lover.

I can choose a workout for how much time I have – 5, 12, 20, or 30 minute workouts – and just change into my sports bra and shorts and hop up in down in my bedroom where no one will see me jiggle.

I find her tone supportive and her workouts challenging but doable.

I was hoping we could all share our favorite at home fitness gurus – channels and DVDs so we can get a list of resources going in the comments section.

Do you have a favorite fitness channel on Youtube? How do you deal with not going to the gym?

Some people have no problem with exercise. They get up, run, walk, go to the gym, and move seemingly without effort....

Who Needs Cross-Fit? Five Minutes Is All You Need

Snack Girl recently heard about a gym that charges $160 per month for something called "Cross-Fit".

I love Jessica Smith TV! I just finished her 6 week Walk Strong program and I feel great - I'm also a fan of Yoga with Adrienne.

I love Jessica Smith TV. I've been using the total body strength training videos she has--she partnered with My Fitness Pal and that is how I found her. Love the videos!

I have been doing Yoga with Adrienne too. I'm on day 8 of her 30 Day Yoga Camp!

As a stay at home mom of five, this suggestion is much appreciated!! Being in New England, our weather is acting like.........New England and just when I think I'm good to start walking again, Mother Nature has different plans! Ugh!

Anyways, I'll be trying these out!

Yessssss I love this thread. I have group classes I love, too, but I am a flight attendant and am often gone 6 days at a time. With such weird hours, I have a hard time finding time to work out, and I never get the good workout I'm hoping for at a hotel gym. I've thought about doing Beachbody On Demand but it's so expensive. Keep the suggestions coming!

I've been exploring Fitness Blender videos - both their website and their YouTube channel. I love that I can search and filter workouts by time, difficulty, equipment, etc.

I'm a big fan of Body Electric and Classical Stretch on PBS. I also like Yoga with Adrienne on You Tube. Definitely going to check out Jessica Smith TV as well - thanks for the tip!

I love! There are a ton of different workouts & they are very effective. You can check out the real fit channel on YouTube to try the workouts before you subscribe to the site.

I also like Yoga with Adrienne on You Tube.

Fitness Blender or Body Fit by Amy are great!!

Great post! I like Leslie Sansone's walk at home DVDs. Just yesterday I came across the Blogilates site. She has workout videos too. Looking forward to more options. Thank you!

I use YouTube videos as part of my workout regime every day! Some channels I love are Tone It Up, Class FitSugar, BeFit (Jillian Michaels has some good ones on this channel). I find a lot of trainers like Cassie Ho (Blogilates), Jackie Warner, Teddy Bass, Andrea Orbeck, Autumn Calabrese, Jillian Michaels etc. do videos on these channels for free to promote themselves. So you can get free workouts from them without commitment :)

For people like me who are at a lower level of fitness and physical ability Hasfit covers workouts you can do seated :) I find them great for getting more flexibility and fitness even when I can't stand for very long. They have some especially for seniors too. They're positive and motivating, concentrating on what you can do rather than what you can't!

I love Leslie Sansone walking DVD's. She gets you moving at your own pace while talking to you, feels like someone is walking with you.

As an introvert I am not a fan of group anything. It sucks the life out of me. I have to be around a lot of people for my business so when I'm looking for activity to not only benefit my physical health but mental as well it's solo. I also get bored easily so YouTube is my friend! I don't have anyone in particular I follow now. I used to do Victoria's Secret models workouts. Which is funny because that is so not me but I liked the woman doing them. I've done chair yoga because I was researching for a friend with health problems. Wow, that can kick your behind! So I urge people to just explore and experiment.

When we are traveling (especially having to drive long distances) we use The 7 Minute Workout. It can easily be done at a rest stop or in a hotel room.…

Thanks for this thread. Keep the cost-free, motivating, do-able ideas coming‼

I've been a huge fan of Leslie Sansone for years. The moves are basic, but I get a great workout. Leslie has a lovely motivating way about her.

Hooray!!! I LOVE Jessica Smith TV!!! I do one of her workouts practically every day. She is so fun and I love her attitude about exercise, that it should be fun and uplifting.

Jessica Smith is awesome!!!
