Healthy New Year’s Celebration

December 26, 2018   4 Comments

Here comes New Year’s Eve and it is time to party! You can start your New Year’s resolutions a little early with some wise choices.

Healthy New Year’s Celebration

I guess I should admit right now that I will be asleep at midnight. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t get your party on! Shake it, shake it, shake it. The question is what are you going to drink?

Let’s go over some drinks you should avoid:

  • Egg nog
  • Frozen Margaritas
  • Coffee drinks with cream in them

People, these are calorie bombs and you don’t need them to enjoy yourself. Egg nog is a whopping 10 Smart Points for Weight Watchers members and I am avoiding it.

If I was going to party, I would be choosing bubbly. Champagne, sparkling wine, Prosecco or Cava has a mere 90 calories for a glass and it is SO festive. How can you go wrong with all those bubbles?

You can drink 3.5 glasses of champagne for every one cup of egg nog that you didn’t drink. Don’t drink that many though because you might fall down and hurt yourself.

If you don’t find that champagne is sweet enough for you just add a wee bit of “Creme de Cassis” or black currant flavored liqeur and you get a lovely pink color and sweet flavor. Or just drop in a sugar cube (15 calories) for a great effect.

Snack Girl advises her younger readers to refrain from drinking alcohol until they are 21 years of age.

Food? Well you can’t go wrong with carrot sticks, celery, and hummus. That is a bit dull so here are a few more suggestions:

1. Light Jalapeno Poppers

It’s one day....have the eggnog! Lol! Sheesh! Diets do not work!

Agree with Ann. I didn't gain my weight because of just one crazy day of eating and drinking whatever I wanted. Enjoy your New Year's Day in the way you feel best, whether it is closely monitoring yourself or just taking a one day break from restrictions.

Whether we see NYE as one day of the year or otherwise, here's to being healthy and happy 2019. Lisa, I'll be awake at midnight only because we're night owls (not party animals) and champagne is definitely on my agenda. I got a Fitbit for my birthday and have walking buds for a January charity event walk. Goals and buddies work for me. Have a good one, all, however you choose to celebrate.

I agree with Ann. Enjoy yourself. You can make a skinny version of eggnog too. Hubby and I always have a glass of champagne on News Years eve. (Prosecco is too bitter for me). It is one of the only times all year that we have alcohol. Fat in foods can make me less hungry and dampens the appetite so I don't overeat.
