Top 10 High Protein Snacks 2012

High-protein diets have become a popular way to lose weight because protein may be able to satisfy hunger better than fats or carbohydrates.

Top 10 High Protein Snacks

Of course, if you just eat protein and skip other important food groups you probably won’t feel so good (or be very regular).

If you just want to add some protein to your food, you can use protein powder and add it to smoothies or homemade granola bars. I am not a fan of adding extra protein to recipes that don’t call for it. I like to consume the protein that is naturally found in the foods that I eat.

What qualifies as a high protein snack?

I decided that the best measure was whether the grams of protein per serving was more than the grams of carbohydrate per serving.

There are some great snacks that include beans that are both high in protein and carbs, but I skipped those for this list.

The snacks below feature either dairy, meat, or eggs to get their high protein rating - but they also include vegetables or fruit to balance them.

Thanks Lisa! I love your blog. It helps DAILY!

I've been carb cycling now for about a year, I think, for me, it's the best plan ever. My meal plan is simple, alternating low carb/high protein days Monday thru Saturday, and 1 free day which is usually Sunday. I have more energy, never hungry, and I don't feel bloated from carbs. But the best part of my plan is having one free day which usually allows me to get rid of those craving demons, all in moderation, and get back on track the next day. Since I have no tolerance for carbs (my body just stores them and turns them to FAT immediately)I find that a higher protein diet works best.

Love your blog! Can't wait to check out all your recipes!

Thank you! I'm all about the protein snacks. I've lost weight (slowly and healthily) and just feel better; no longer plagued with those fake hunger feeling. My daughter also uses red pepper as crunch for her salads, sans the croutons.

http://www.mendosa.com/satiety.htm says, "Roughly speaking, the more fiber, protein and water a food contains, the longer it will satisfy."

I think that their role in satiety is why beans of all shapes, sizes, and flavors have been a dietary staple for millennia.

For those of us with diabetes, high protein snacks are important. It's all about the balance. You need the carbs to survive, but they make the blood sugar rise. With the addition of a protein or two, it smooths out the rise. I'm always on the lookout for fun high protein snacks and meals!

I just shared your link all over the place. Have a great day.

I love this list and can't wait to share.

What is with all the high protein food hype?!

Has anyone researched the HEALTH behind eating a diet high in protein? Bone loss (among other issues)! Yep, that goes for milk too.

I could go on and on but if you want the scientific facts check these books out for starters (complete with a HUGE reference/footnote section)...
